PM Innovative Learning Programme - DHRUV


The Pradhan Mantri Innovative Learning Programme (DHRUV) is a government of India project that is supported by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development.

About ‘DHRUV’ – PM Innovative Learning Programme





  • The scheme's name, DHRUV, is derived from the pole star "Dhruv Tara."
  • Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank' unveiled it on October 10, 2019.
  • In the presence of the Union HRD Minister, Dr K Sivan, ISRO Chairman, Wing Cdr. Rakesh Sharma, and Professor K Vijay Raghavan, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, this Innovative Program was inaugurated at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) headquarters in Bengaluru.
  • The initiative will encourage young and bright children to pursue their passions in science, the performing arts, creative writing, and other fields.




Objectives of DHRUV Innovative Programme





  • The Indian government will use this initiative to encourage exceptional and gifted students to improve their abilities and knowledge.
  • Children will be coached and developed by famous specialists in many fields at centres of excellence around the country, allowing them to attain their greatest potential.
  • The major focus will be on two areas: Science and the Arts
  • Around 60 youngsters, ranging in age from 9 to 12, will be chosen from around the country.
  • This Pradhan Mantri Creative Learning Programme (PMILP) would increase young students' confidence and inspire them to master new and innovative skills to the best of their abilities. This would enable them to develop and contribute for the welfare of society and the environment.




DHRUV Programme – Key Features





  • In October of this year, the first batch of students enrolled in the PM Innovative Learning Program.
  • For the inaugural cohort of DHRUV, 60 outstanding students were chosen, 30 from the performing arts and 30 from science.
  • These pupils were chosen from both private and public schools around the country.
  • A 14-day learning experience was planned for each of the 60 students in two groups as part of the curriculum. One is dedicated to science, and the other is dedicated to the performing arts. They were then separated into three groups of ten students each, with experts and mentors assigned to each streams. Students were required to present their projects (for Science) and choreograph and appear in a play (for Drama) (for Performing Arts)
