PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana


Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi is a central Indian government sector program to provide income support to farmers and their families. The PM-KISAN program was first implemented as the Telangana government's Rythu Bandhu program, where a certain amount of money was given directly to eligible farmers. Then, on February 1, 2019, in the interim budget of the Union of India 2019, Piyush Goyal announced the implementation of this plan as a national project.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM-KISAN plan on February 24, 2019 in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. Under this program, all small and marginal farmers will receive an income of Rs 6,000 per year in three installments that will be deposited directly into their bank accounts. The total annual expenditure for this program is expected to be Rs 75,000 crore, which will be funded by the Union government.

Objectives of PM-KISAN scheme





The Government of India has implemented the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana as a central sector programme. This programme was created to supplement the income of many small and marginal farmers. The following are the major goals of the PM-KISAN scheme:





Provides income support to all eligible farmers and their families. The

PM-KISAN program also aims to supplement farmers' financial needs by procuring a variety of inputs to ensure good crop health and consistent yields, commensurate with expected income of farmers.

The program is expected to increase the coverage of PM-KISAN to approximately 14.5 crore beneficiaries. It aims to provide about 2 crore more to farmers at an estimated cost of 87,217.50 crore which will be financed by the central government.





Eligibility to avail benefits under PM-KISAN scheme





To be eligible for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, a small or marginal farmer must not meet the following conditions. The following are some of the beneficiaries who are not eligible for this scheme's benefits:





  1. All organized land owners.
  2. Farmer as well as any family member of the following categories:
  3. Incumbent to former and current constitutional positions
  4. Former and current Ministers/Ministers of the state
  5. Former or members current of LokSabha / RajyaSabha / state legislature / council of state legislature
  6. Former and current mayor of municipal corporations.
  7. Past and present panchayat district chairman.
  8. Any serving or retired officers as well as employees reporting to central/state government ministries/offices/departments.
  9. All retirees who receive a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 or more and fall under the above categories.
  10. Any natural person who has paid his/her income tax in the previous tax year is not entitled to this scheme.
  11. Professionals such as doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants and architects are registered with professional bodies and practice their practice by way of practice.




The farmers eligible under the scheme are required to produce the below-mentioned documents for their verification:





  • Citizenship certificate
  • Landholding papers
  • Aadhaar card
  • Bank account details




Advantages of PM-KISAN Scheme
