Initiatives under Rashtriya Gokul Mission

SeveralFor the protection and improvement of indigenous bovine breeds, the Rashtriya Gokul Mission has made several measures. The following are some of the significant efforts done by the Indian government throughout the implementation of this mission:

  • To create indigenous breeds, many cattle development centres were formed. Gokul Grams were the names given to these development centres.

  • Creating several rewards for farmers in order to encourage them to raise these indigenous breeds. Farmers received the Gopal Ratna award for best management and maintenance of the Indigenous Breed, while Institutions/Trusts/NGOs/ Gaushalas or best-managed Breeders' societies received the Kamdhenu award for best managed Indigenous herd by Institutions/Trusts/ NGOs/ Gaushalas or best-managed Breeders' societies.

  •

  • The National Kamdhenu Breeding Centre (NKBC) was established as a centre of excellence for the scientific development and protection of indigenous breeds.

  • Creating an e-marketplace to bring breeders and farmers together. ‘E-Pashu Haat – Nakul Prajnan Bazaar' was the name of this e-market portal.

  • Pashu Sanjivani, an animal wellness initiative, was launched, which included the distribution of animal health cards.

  • For a disease-free female bovine, modern reproductive technology is used. In-vitro fertilisation (IVF) and Multiple Ovulation Embryo Transfer were two of the technologies used (MOET).

  •

  • The National Bovine Genomic Center for Indigenous Breeds is being established (NBGC-IB).

PM recently inaugurated the following under Rashtriya Gokul Mission:

  1. Semen Station with state-of-the-art facilities in Purnea, Bihar.

  2. IVF lab established at Animal Sciences University, Patna.

  3. Sex sorted semen in artificial insemination by Baroni Milk Union in Begusarai district of Bihar.
