About the SVAMITVA Scheme
- Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas is the full name of SVAMITVA.
- The Revenue Department / Land Records Department, in collaboration with the State Panchayati Raj Department and the Nodal Ministry, will endeavour to achieve the scheme's goals in each state.
- The scheme's major goal is to offer rural India with a comprehensive property certification solution.
- SVAMITVA is a Sanskrit word that means " The government will issue property cards to landowners, and for the delineation of rural abadi regions, drone surveying technology and Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) will be deployed.
- This will allow homeowners to keep their homes in populated regions and utilise them as collateral for loans or other financial obligations.
- Drone mapping of places will be done progressively in all villages over a four-year period, beginning in 2020 and concluding in 2024.
- Only six states are now covered by the scheme: Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
- The initiative is supported by the country's central government, with Rs 79.65 crores set out for the project's trial phase.
What is the SVAMITVA card?
SVAMITVA property cards will be created for each landowner under the Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas initiative.
This will allow them to produce an official document to financial institutions in the event that their land/property is ever used as an asset.

Objectives of SVAMITVA Scheme
Given below are the main objectives of the SVAMITVA Yojana:
- This would help individuals in rural regions achieve financial security by allowing them to utilise their land/property as an asset to obtain a loan or other financial advantage.
- The land division and records are not effectively preserved and documented due to a lack of understanding. The government plans to use this project to produce accurate land records for rural planning.
- It will aid in the calculation of property tax, which will either go directly to the GPs in states where it is devolved or would be added to the state coffers.
- Proper survey infrastructure and GIS maps would be leveraged for the usage of various Government agencies.
- Using GIS maps, this will also help to develop and support the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP).
- Many legal and property-related conflicts remain unresolved in rural communities. This initiative will also aid in the resolution of these difficulties.\

Need for the SVAMITVA Scheme
The government is continuously attempting to improve the lives of rural Indians, and the SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) yojana is one such project.
- Over 6 lakhs rural people would be able to profit from this programme if the pilot experiment is successful.
- The ‘record of rights' would be given by the land/property registrations that would be done under this plan.
- This would make it easier to monetise rural home properties for the purposes of lending and other financial services.
Benefits of SVAMITVA Scheme
- The rural people will be given official paperwork for the property so that they may utilise it for other financial objectives.
- Regular inspections and drone surveys will provide the government and authorities with a better understanding of the land/property allocation.
- This initiative will result in a better understanding of property rights.
- Once tougher laws and papers are in place, there will be no unlawful attempts to take someone else's property in the hamlet.
- The SVAMITVA Property card can also be used by landowners as a temporary identification.
